The 2023 Passion Korea Badminton League, which covers the strongest shuttlecock in Korea, opened on the 17th at the Pocheon General Gymnasium.
This tournament, featuring top stars such as Ahn Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance) and Lee Yong-dae (Yonex), will heat up the court for nearly two months until April 9th. Pocheon City, which hosted the preliminaries, is paying special attention to preparations for the competition in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the promotion. Playoffs and finals will be held at the Namyangju Sports and Culture Center.
In the men’s division, 12 teams, including Yonex, Samsung Life Insurance, and Miryang City Hall, compete for the championship. In the women’s division, 10 teams, including Samsung Life, Pocheon City Hall, KGC Ginseng Corporation, and MG Saemaeul Geumgo, will compete.
In the first year’s competition last year, Yonex won the men’s division and Samsung Life Insurance rose to the top in the women’s division. 안전놀이터
Pocheon City Hall, the women’s division led by coach Cha Yoon-sook, is promising a blast beyond advancing to the semifinals last year thanks to the support of home fans.
It is expected to become a true badminton festival in which not only elite teams but also 25 clubs of clubs participate.
The main sponsor of the competition was ‘Yeoljeong Korea’, a restaurant franchise company that is attracting attention with its ‘Yeoljeong Gukbap’ brand.
Kim Joong-soo, president of the Korea Unemployment Badminton Federation, who organized the tournament, said, “We will lay the foundation for the establishment of a professional badminton league. It will be a place of festival enjoyed by both players and spectators.”
