The San Diego Padres reportedly offered Manny Machado an additional five years and $105 million.
According to MLBTR, San Diego recently offered Machado $255 million over 10 years, adding $150 million over five years to the remaining five years and $150 million. That’s a total of $405 million over 15 years.
Machado asked San Diego to present a contract extension until the 17th (Korean time).
Machado announced on the 18th that he would opt out after this season. He intends to enter the FA market.
Machado’s move is similar to that of Aaron Judge (New York Yankees) and Carlos Correa (Minnesota Twins).
Judge entered the free agency market last season after turning down a seven-year, $213.5 million offer from the Yankees.
Judge signed a 9-year, $360 million contract with the Yankees after using the San Francisco Giants and San Diego as sidekicks.
Correa signed a three-year, $105.3 million contract with Minnesota ahead of the 2022 season, but inserted an opt-out clause after each season.
As expected, when the 2022 season ended, he exercised opt-out and jumped into the free agency market.
Minnesota was the first to offer $285 million over 10 years, but Correa declined. 스포츠토토
Afterwards, Correa agreed with the San Francisco Giants for a total of 350 million dollars over 13 years, but the contract was canceled after a physical examination revealed a problem with his right ankle, which he had operated on 8 years ago.
Correa, however, immediately agreed to a 12-year, $315 million contract with the New York Mets, but failed to pass the physical examination and did not reach the final contract.
Eventually, Correa signed a six-year, $200 million contract with his original team, Minnesota.
Machado, who saw this, said he would go to the FA market like Judge and Corea. He appears to be thinking of at least $300 million a decade or more.
Machado signed a 10-year, $300 million contract with San Diego five years ago, including an opt-out five years later.
Machado hit .298 with 32 homers last season. He has the power to hit 30 home runs every season.
