Scherzer diagnosed with teres major sprain…effectively out for the season

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Max Scherzer’s season is over.

In an interview with local media such as the Dallas Morning News on the 14th (Korean time), Rangers general manager Chris Young reported the news of Scherzer,안전놀이터who had left the mound the day before while pitching due to biceps spasms.

According to this, Scherzer was diagnosed with a right teres major sprain.

The teres major refers to the muscles of the shoulder blade and humerus. This is a muscle that is frequently injured by pitchers who frequently raise their arms upward. Previously, Corey Kluber, who played for Texas in 2020, missed most of the season due to this injury.

It is an injury that does not require surgery, but the problem is that there is not much time left.

General Manager Young predicted that Scherzer would not be able to pitch for the remainder of the regular season or even the postseason.

Scherzer moved from the New York Mets to Toronto through a trade at the end of July.

After the transfer, he pitched 45 innings in 8 games, recording 4 wins, 2 losses, and an ERA of 3.20. He struck out 53 while allowing 15 walks.

Scherzer, who debuted in the big leagues in 2008, has never been sidelined due to arm-related injuries. He only appeared in 23 games in 2022 due to an oblique muscle injury.

Scherzer was recruited to fill the void left by Jacob deGrom, who left due to Tommy John surgery, but he also appears to have left due to injury.

Texas’ starting rotation includes Nathan Evoldi, who is building up after recovering from injury, as well as John Gray, Jordan Montgomery, and Dane Dunning.

Someone needs to take Scherzer’s place. The Dallas Morning News pointed out Andrew Heaney and Martin Perez, who were recently pushed to the bullpen, as replacement candidates.
