‘Smile Jumper’ Woo Sang-hyuk returns home with a silver medal… “Unfortunate but good start”

Male high jumper Woo Sang-hyeok (Yongin City Hall) returned with a bright expression after completing training camps in the U.S. and Europe and the first competition this year.

Woo Sang-hyuk arrived at Incheon International Airport at 10:20 am on the 13th.

Woo Sang-hyeok, who left for California on December 1 of last year to prepare for the 2023 season, won the silver medal in the 2m24 final in the men’s high jump at the 10th Asian Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Astana, Kazakhstan on the 12th of this month after training in Europe.

Woo Sang-hyeok, who entered the arrival hall, said, “I wanted to do better in the first competition of the new year, but unfortunately, I finished in second place. Personally, I am sorry, but I put the meaning in that I had a good start.” 토토사이트

He added, “After running the game, I thought I could do better in the future. I didn’t have the best performance, but I think it’s a good sign that I can challenge and overcome that height.”

Woo Sang-hyeok took first place in the world ranking points compiled by the World Association of Athletics Federations in 2022 and started 2023 as the world number one.

At the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, as his biggest rival, Mutaz Esa Barshim (Qatar), did not participate, Woo Sang-hyeok was also selected as the ‘best candidate for the championship’.

However, as Akamatsu Ryoichi of Japan won the gold medal over 2m28, Woo Sang-hyeok was pushed back to second place.

Although he placed second in his first tournament of the year, Woo Sang-hyeok’s season is just beginning.

He aims to win the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary in August and the Asian Games in Hangzhou in September, which are his ‘real goals’.
