‘The oldest active player’ Hill signs a 1-year-8M contract with PIT → ’12th team’

Rich Hill (43), the “oldest active player”, has officially announced a contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hill has been active on the major league stage even at the age of 43. Pittsburgh is Hill’s 12th team.

The Pittsburgh club officially announced on the 6th (Korean time) that they had signed a one-year-$8 million contract with Hill. This is what Hill passed the Pittsburgh physical test.

This is an increase in salary from last year. Hill received annual salaries of $2.5 million and $5 million in 2021 and last year, respectively.

Hill is a veteran pitcher born in 1980. But even last season, he went 8-7 with a 4.27 earned run average, throwing 124 1/3 innings in 26 games. 메이저사이트

He’s well past his retirement age as a player, but he can still hold the mound as a starter. He can also impart experience to Pittsburgh pitchers.

Hill is the type of pitcher who cooks hitters with multiple pitches, even with a slow fastball velocity. Hill’s four-seam fastball rate last season was only 37.7 percent.

His prime was with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Hill pitched 361 1/3 innings in 69 games (68 starts) over four seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, going 30-16 with a 3.16 ERA.

There are no awards to be reckoned with. Also, due to Hill’s relatively late debut at the age of 25, he has yet to win 100 career victories.

However, Hill played as a player in the 2023 season, and took the title of ‘oldest active player’ following ‘active oldest pitcher’.

Hill is one of the best journeymen in the major leagues. Pittsburgh is Hill’s 12th team. Hill has played for the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, New York Mets, Tampa Bay Rays, Oakland Athletics, Cleveland Guardians, Los Angeles Angels, New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles.
